- Bachelor’s Degree in relevant area such as Environmental, Engineering, International Development
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in environmental protection and permitting, NGOs, social responsibility post or similar role
- Previous experience in an organization with a strong E&S culture and/or in internationally financed projects (that required meeting IFC Performance Standards on Environmental & Social Sustainability and/or EBRD Performance Requirements and/or EIB E&S Standards)
- Previous experience in stakeholder engagement and land acquisition in accordance with international standards
- Previous experience with a Developer, an E&S Consultancy, a development financial institution and/or governmental institution
- Significant experience in front-end environmental and social studies and assessments
- Passionate about environmental protection, socio-economic development, strong affinity working with communities and understanding cultural sensitivities
- Profound understanding of business impact on society/ecosystems and vice versa through previous multi-disciplinary experience (e.g. NGO, government and corporate)
- Knowledgeable of regulatory frameworks, local regulations, permits, authorizations and any other consent required for the development of infrastructure projects, ideally renewable energy projects, as well as possess knowledge of relevant industry players i.e. developers, consultants, service providers
The main responsibilities include:
- Build and maintain collaborative relationships with landowners, local communities, and wider stakeholders, fostering socio-economic development, environmental protection, respect for labour and human rights
- Act as Company representative for all Environmental & Social (E&S) matters, including land acquisition in line with international requirements and engagement with landowners
- Serve as the main local interface with E&S consultants, advisors, state authorities, and other stakeholders during ESIA development and throughout the project lifecycle
- Monitor ESIA progress and review deliverables to ensure project requirements are met on time, within budget, and in line with the E&S Compliance Framework
- Plan and manage stakeholder engagement activities, disclosure of ESIA and related plans, and implementation of community mitigation measures; contribute to the Stakeholder Engagement Plan (SEP)
- Support lenders’ Environmental and Social Due Diligence, audits, and monitoring visits, ensuring corrective actions are implemented
- Act as first point of contact for grievance management, filtering and resolving issues in line with the Project’s Grievance Mechanism; monitor and report on E&S performance of consultants, contractors, and subcontractors
- Oversee development and ensure implementation of Project-specific QHSEMS during construction and operation, covering environmental protection (pollution prevention, waste management, monitoring) and social aspects (working conditions, labour code of conduct, worker grievance mechanism)
- Provide on-the-ground support to the technical team and Country/Business Development Manager, interfacing corporate E&S and Technical teams, and directing local resources to address risks and emerging issues
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of international, national, and local environmental and social standards, legislation, and evolving ESG frameworks
- Facilitate training sessions for contractors and subcontractors on project E&S requirements and international best practices
- Guide and supervise the Community Liaison Officer (CLO) in engaging landowners and communities, managing grievances, and providing feedback
- Promote awareness of social responsibility within the organisation by involving employees and keeping management and staff informed of social development initiatives
- Support the Country/Business Development Manager in liaising with government officials, institutions, and stakeholders on environmental and social matters
